ANALYSIS: Principles for the appointment of members of the NMC board are by extension applied to the board membership of the state broadcaster, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. Members of the NMC are appointed on the basis of their technical expertise. These commissioners must not be engaged in active politics. In fact, in late 2005 one commissioner lost her position and needed to be replaced after having been elected national treasurer of the ruling party. Whilst there are 3 Members of Parliament and 2 members appointed by government on the NMC, neither the NMC nor the GBC have any party-political representation on their boards.
