Entry into and practice of the journalistic
profession is not restricted by law.
Entry into journalism profession is completely free, and there are no legal
preconditions for access to it. Nevertheless, among media professionals, there
are those who argue that in recent years the journalism profession has become
trivialised and that the professionals themselves must get organised in order to rid
themselves of individuals who do not deserve the status of journalist. his group
of professionals argues that this could be done by instituting a professional license.
However, others argue that the introduction of a professional license could be used
by certain powerful interests to prevent journalists from exercising the profession.
A professional license is foreseen as part of the revisions to the Press Law, with its
regulations drafted by professional organisations. he government would provide
legal conirmation of the document. Both the allocation and the removal of the
professional license would be the responsibility of an Independent Commission to
be established under the statutes. he discussion is still ongoing, and so far there
has been no inal decision.
