Journalists and editors do not practice selfcensorship.
Self-censorship exists for a variety of reasons. In some cases, self-censorship is
the result of indirect or historical links between certain media and the political
power; while in others, it arises from a conlict of interest on the part of editors and
journalists who simultaneously work as press advisers in government institutions or
the private sector. Self-censorship may also be caused by insecurity or professional
incompetence, wherein the journalist feels that he has insuicient command of the
subject on which he is reporting, and seeks refuge by suppressing information that
he feels might be controversial or polemic.
here is another, no less pernicious, form of censorship that is encouraged by
private companies who sign agreements with the media, but then limit their scope
of action on subjects related to these companies in exchange for advertising or
sponsorship.
