Community broadcasting enjoys special promotion given its
potential to broaden access to poor and rural communities.

Analysis
The classification of radios according to the law is quite clear, but
in reality, many radio stations declare themselves community radios
and yet operate as commercial radios and vice versa. The same
applies to the scope of work of radio stations which is very restrictive. In practice, radio stations are granted special conditions, such
as the annual fee of One hundred thousand (100,000) CFA francs,
approximately 150 Euros. Most radios do not pay this fee and yet
continue to broadcast and benefit from media support when administrative requirements are fulfilled.

The editorial independence of print media published by a
public authority is protected adequately against undue
political interference.

Analysis
Manifestly, there is no excessive political interference in public authority media. The national daily l’Essor, edited in French enjoys
relatively considerable independence compared to the national radio station. The personality of their respective managers is of importance in this regard.
