facilities offering formal qualiication programmes as
well as opportunities to upgrade skills.

undertaken by the structures and the bodies in the sector.
he National Institute of Management and Public Administration now runs a
training program in journalism.
A number of cases can be cited such as the initiative by a daily media house
called fraternité which had a 15-day training program for its chief editor, the
DANIDA1-funded ODEM project for on-the-job training for journalists, but
also and particularly the inancing of 150,000,000 CFA as assistance to the
media for the training of media professionals, not to talk of the eforts HAAC
deployed through the instrumentality of its “get it done” program for the training
of journalists.
he panelists also testiied of the cases of individual journalists who personally
contributed inancially to get trained due to the expensive nature of the courses.
his is one of the reasons why the initiative taken by “La Nation” to get its
personnel trained at the African Center for Professional Training in Journalism
(Centre Africain de Formation Professionnelle en Journalisme, CAFP) in Cotonou
was stalled.
