PRESS LAW STILL IN DRAFT PHASE
Initiated in November 2006, the review
of the Press Law, which had already
been completed, was supposed to have
been tabled in the Assembly of the Republic until the end of 2016, as guaranteed on April 12 by the Director of
the Information Office, Emília Moyane.
However, at the time of writing this article, the law had not yet been submitted
to the Council of Ministers. It should be
remembered that the review of the press
law suffered a prolonged stoppage without any public justification.
Another issue that has received attention in the media in Mozambique is the
debate surrounding the proposal for the
first broadcasting law, which, although
it is a sign of progress, has been criticised for failing to differentiate between
commercial, public and community
broadcasting, putting everything together in the same package. Likewise, this
broadcasting law does not address the
most crucial aspects of broadcasting in
Mozambique, especially those related
to the professionalisation of management at Rádio Moçambique e Televisão
de Moçambique, focusing only on the
licensing processes of radios and televi-
