The editorial independence of the public broadcaster from 		
commercial pressure and political influence is guaranteed
by law and practised.

ANALYSIS:
There is no such law. There is some practice of independence. And
that is to a large extent, the effort of the journalists. The panellists
did not agree as to whether the measure of editorial independence
demonstrated by CRTV journalists was as a result of what was going on in the private media or not. It was noted that despite the
fact that the grip on the CRTV journalists was even tighter, the media practitioners had understood the importance of credibility and
were striving for it.

The public broadcaster is adequately funded in a manner 		
that protects it from arbitrary interference with its 			
budget.

ANALYSIS:
Over 80% of CRTV’s budget comes from the audio-visual tax which
is deducted directly from salaries at source by the Ministry of Finance. But unfortunately, this money is not sent directly to the
corporation’s account. CRTV management then negotiates with the
African Media Barometer - Cameroon 2008
