SECTOR 2 2.7 All media fairly represent the voices of both women and men. In the Togolese media, there is a real imbalance between women and men’s ability to express themselves. The panel is unanimously of the opinion that for cultural and other reasons, the media gives men more opportunities to speak than women. Sometimes, without fully realising it, the media only reflects the voice of either of the authorities or of men. A member of the panel considers that it is not commercially “saleable” to put a woman in the newspaper headlines. Nevertheless, in the audio-visual industry, there are time slots reserved for women but they are never available as they are not sufficiently used to speaking in the media.
