There is no such balance, fairness or diversity in the state broadcaster’s news and current affairs offerings, especially in light of recent experiences during the 2010 presidential elections. The new government had such a stranglehold on news broadcast on RTG television that the leaders of the other political parties were forced to turn to private broadcasters to make their own voices heard. In fact, the Chairman of the National Communication Council (Conseil National de la Communication, CNC) released a statement highlighting the unbalanced coverage of information on the activities of opposition parties. The way work is organised in RTG discourages media professionals from attempting any form of innovation in terms of news gathering, opening up to the public and presenting different points of view and opinions.
