It is, therefore, elating that a year later the Station’s license has finally been
reinstated. Coincidentally, however, the reinstatement was done days after
the coming to power of the United Party for National Development (UPND),
prompting the IBA to dismiss assertions of undue influence or pressure from
the new government over the license reinstatement:
The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) would like to refute assertions that
the Authority was directed by the newly-elected United Party for National
Development (UPND) to issue a broadcasting licence to Prime Television.
The IBA wishes to inform the public that the Board acted independently when it
granted Prime TV a broadcasting licence and at no point did the Authority receive
any instructions to open the Station.
