Women continue to be substantially underrepresented in the media. A 2010 study by Gender Links showed that only 14% of the news disseminated by the media in Mozambique has a woman as the main source. he same study shows that a woman rarely appears in the news as a single source. Participants felt that there are no gender policies in newsrooms and urged greater equilibrium in the representation of men and women. Participants also recognised that this problem is not exclusive to the media but is also visible in churches, political parties and other institutions of a social nature.
