Adequate competition legislation/regulation
seeks to prevent media concentration and monopolies.
Paragraph 8 of Article 6 of the Press Law states that “in order to guarantee citizens’
right to information, the State shall have an anti–monopoly policy, avoiding the
concentration of the media”. However, the law does not say how the State will
implement this policy, nor have any regulations been produced to this end. he
irst manifestation of cross ownership of the media in Mozambique arose in the
irst half of the 2000s with the appearance of the SOICO Group, the owner of
various media: STV, Rádio SFM and the newspaper O País. he Mediacoop
group followed, adding a radio station - Rádio Savana - to its two newspapers Savana and Mediafax.
