Journalists and editors do not practice self-censorship.

Analysis
The Malian journalist generally practices self-censorship for social,
economic, ethical and other reasons as well as out of fear. It happens also that an editor censors a given piece of information that he
considers to be subjective or which does not conform to his editorial line.

Owners of private media do not interfere with editorial
independence.

Analysis
Each media outlet has its editorial line that can be easily grasped
by reading the newspaper or listening to the radio. And journalists
who work in these newsrooms are compelled to adhere to these
lines. However, very few have editorial independence. This is often
observed during election periods. A media owner is not necessarily
a journalist according to the law. He can therefore have an interest
that is not necessarily journalistic.
