SECTOR 2

2.2 Citizens’ access to domestic and international
me-dia sources is not restricted by state authorities.
There are no regulations preventing the international media to establish itself,
but the tax refund procedures have discouraged all but one. On the other
hand, the local media is constrained by the State because private television
and radio stations are not allowed to broadcast at a national level. National
coverage is thus completely controlled by law and the State.
However, plenty of international as well as national television stations are
accessible via satellite TV bouquets (Parabole, Canal+), but subscription is
quite expensive. (CanalSat costs Ariary 70.000 = USD 22,01).
