SECTOR 2

2.8 All media fairly represent the voices of society and
its minorities in its ethnic, linguistic, religious diversity.
Overall, with the exception of political diversity which still faces immense
challenges, we found some diversity in communication bodies. Public radio, RM,
has shown various signs of progress, particularly with regard to the use of national
languages in its broadcasts, on its various channels/programmes.
With regard to religious and ethnic diversity, in the years covered by the present
AMB report, no situations were recorded publicly in which one religious group
was favoured or prejudiced by media, nor any claim of exclusion. At specific
moements, particularly on important dates for the main religions of the country,
their leaders appeared to be represented, impartially and without discirmination,
on the main communication networks, particularly electronic (Radio and
Television).
But political diversity isnot reflected almost completely, which is a problem as,
in terms of Article 3 of the CRM, Mozambique is a Democratic State. Another
situation which is particularly problematic is the lack of consideration, particularly
on television, of population groups with special needs, like those with speech
impediments.
