Safety as such does not seems to be a problem, as the environment is favourable for the carrying out of the profession of a journalist. With regard to security there are some journalistic companies which have it, but generally speaking the situation is not the best. From the formal point of view, both journalists and other media professionals are organized into unions and/or professional associations, but such unions and/or professional associations are all but inactive, not defending the interests of their members. The SNJ itself, which has existed for more than 35 years, is inactive. MISA-Moçambique, another association which defends freedom of the press, among other things, is believed to be inactive over the last few years. The same – inactivity – is happening to associations like the Editors Forum of Mozambique (EditMoz) and the Association of Women in the Media (AMCS), are considered to be not very active. Throughout this period, there has been the emergence of some associaitions for the research, advocacy and defence of specific interests of the Media professions.
