2.11 The advertisement market is large enough to
support a diversity of media outlets.
The advertising market is not very diversified in Mali and consists predominantly
of the State and two large telecommunication companies, Sotelma/Malitel and
Orange Mali.
The potential to improve the market exists, however prospective advertisers refrain
from advertising because of the informal nature of their business and the fact
that they do not fully grasp the advantages of advertising, or because they are not
paying their taxes correctly and fear the publicity gained from advertising will
attract unwanted State attention.
