All media fairly reflect the voices of society in
its ethnic, linguistic, religious, political and social
diversity.
Panellists were reluctant to comment on how the public media handles political
diversity. Nevertheless, overall, the media do consider the diversity of Malian
society.
In the private sector, mostly on air, rural radio stations cover various areas of
interests through educational, religious, cultural and entertainment programming
in local languages. However, linguistic and religious problems in this regard have
been experienced.
Nevertheless, some subjects such as homosexuality remain taboo. In a homophobic
society like Mali, there has yet to be public debate on this issue.
