Positive developments in the media over the last two years: • • • The adoption of the statute governing the management of the public sector media; The establishment of a new television channel, TV Zimbo, a development that brought in an element of competition, which in turn forced the public television channel to improve its content and programming; The involvement of media professionals in the discussion around regulations in the Press Law. 2. Negative developments in the media over the last two years: In the view of the members of the panel, some negative developments that occurred in the media in Angola which are a cause for serious concern within the media fraternity are: • The emergence of the first signs of media monopoly and concentration tendencies; • The growing editorial interference by politicians, particularly in the public sector media; • The assassination of at least one journalist, as well as attacks and threats against media professionals; • The proliferation of lawsuits against journalists for alleged defamation. 3.
