4.10 Journalists and other media practitioners
are organised in trade unions and/or professional
associations.
There are various journalist associations, namely the following:
•
The National Union of Journalists;
•
The Association of Sports Journalists;
•
The Association of Economic/Business Journalists;
•
The Association of Women Journalists;
•
The Forum of Women Journalists and for Gender Equality;
•
The Association of Journalists Against Malaria;
•
Journalists for Health;
•
The Union of Angolan Journalists; and
•
The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) – Angola Chapter.
The National Union of Journalists is the most influential organisation when it
comes to negotiating media-related legislation. It is also the organisation with
the largest membership base among journalists. There is also the Trade Union
Federation of Workers in Education, Culture, Sports and the Media.
