SECTOR 4 4.10 Journalists and other media practitioners are organised in trade unions and/or professional associations. Cameroon boasts several journalism associations and trade unions. The Union of Cameroon Journalists (UCJ) is supposed to function as the umbrella organisation for these multiple associations, but it has been dormant for many years. The Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) is currently the most active association that brings together journalists at a national level. Beat-based organisations such as associations and networks of sports, business/ economics, health and environment reporters are very vibrant. But there is a general feeling that the existence of so many small organisations tends to weaken, rather than strengthen, the voice of the profession.
