All media fairly reflect the voices of society in
its ethnic, linguistic, religious, political and social
diversity.
As a whole, media reflect the diversity of Algerian society. In the broadcasting
sphere, monopolized by the state, linguistic and cultural diversity is from now on
taken into consideration in line with the Constitution, which declares Tamazight
a national language in addition to Arabic. A television station and a radio station
now broadcast in this language. The public media, however, poorly reflects political
and social diversity.
In the private sector, almost all political, religious and other voices can be heard
through the plethora of publications (French-speaking, Arabic, national, regional,
etc…).
However, certain taboos must be broken regarding issues such as apostasy,
homosexuality, children, single mothers, etc...

including marginalised communities.
In the ICT field, Algeria lags behind in terms of policy and technology, as well as
content. The monopoly of the state in this sector is the main cause.
