3.2 Broadcasting is regulated by an independent body
adequately protected by law against interference
whose board is appointed - in an open way - involving civil society and not dominated by any particular
political party.
Although the country’s president appoints the chairman of the TCRA board,
without any public involvement, panellists felt that it does have “some sort of
autonomy and does not always follow the government line”. Board members are
appointed by the Minister of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports.
“The TCRA has an act, which guides and gives them independence from
government.”
People with possible links to the ruling, or other, political parties, are not excluded
from membership to this regulatory body.
