A special feature of private media in Madagascar is that most, if not all owners of private media are leading political actors. This has an inevitable impact on the editorial line and the content of the newspaper. The owner of the newspaper La Vérité, for example, is a businessman and advisor to the Interim President. The husband of the director of Midi Madagasikara is the president of the transitional congress (Congrès de la Transition – CT) and spokesperson for former President Ravalomanana’s camp. The President of the Special Delegation (or the nominated Mayor) of Antananarivo, who furthermore, is a businessman, owns the media group that is publishing the newspaper L’Express de Madagascar.
