SECTOR 2

The cost of Internet access is decreasing, but it is still prohibitively expensive.
Pre-paid mobile Internet (available through the country’s main mobile phone
provider, MTC) comes at a cost N$350 (US$51) - a once off payment which
includes the cost of the USB dongle and N$200 (US$ 29) worth of credit.
Additional internet time can be bought as needed. Pre-paid credit costs are as
follows: N$30 for 50MB; N$55 for 100MB; N$250 for 500MB; N$450 for
1GB; and N$800 for 2GB.
A fixed line ADSL Internet and phone connection costs N$350 (US$51) a
month. MTC now offers off-peak, low-cost downloading for cell phones with
internet connectivity – a move that targets young people and demonstrates that
they are beginning to access Internet via their mobile phones. Internet cafés
charge between N$10-30 an hour (US$1.45 to 4.35), but few are found in poorer
suburbs.
