2.4 Transparency of ownership of media houses in
print/broadcasting is guaranteed by law and enforced.
Transparency is guaranteed in newspaper ownership in Côte d’Ivoire, though
the panel noted the existence of a “masked transparency”. Thus, pseudonyms
continue to exist in media ownership. The newspaper Nord-Sud is said to have
had Guillaume Soro, the chairman of the national assembly backing it as owner.
A good portion of the capital of the newspaper le Temps is said to be held by
the lady Nady Bamba, a close friend to former president Laurent Gbagbo. As
for the newspaper, Notre Voie, the panel is of the opinion that the majority of
shareholders belong to leading figures of the Ivoirian National Front (FPI).
