4.6 Journalists and editors do not practise self-censorship in in the private broadcasting and print media.
Journalists and editors practise self-censorship. After a long discussion, the panel
admitted that self-censorship is “the fact of prohibiting oneself to say” all the
available facts of a story, for several personal reasons, whilst ethics concern
morality and its principles that recommend that we keep certain things quiet. The
panel evoked several cases and examples of self-censorship. From the moment
that a choice is required, the journalist might make a voluntary decision to censor
himself. The panel maintains that the limit between self-censorship, censorship
and ethics is at times very tight.
