SECTOR 2 The media landscape, including new media, is characterised by diversity, independence and sustainability. 2.1 A wide range of sources of information (print, broadcasting, internet, mobile phones) is accessible and affordable to citizens. A wide range of sources of information is only accessible in Conakry where the bulk of the print and broadcast media is concentrated. The increase in the number of mobile telephone operators has made mobile phones more easily accessible, with at least one phone per household. There are two public and two private television channels8. About thirty newspapers (weeklies and periodicals) are on the market and sell for 3000 FG a copy. The government paper Horoya is the only daily, selling at 2000 FG. There are twentythree private radio stations, thirteen community radio stations, and four regional radio stations. In addition Guineans can tune in to three public radio stations: RTG1 and 2, and Radio Kaloum Stereo (RKS), which only covers Conakry. The internet is yet to reach important cities inland, such as Farana and Nzerekore. Despite their availability, these media are not easily affordable to ordinary citizens given their high cost relative to income levels.
