ANALYSIS: The discussion in this section acknowledges that the media have been making strong and commendable efforts to be accurate and fair but it was noted that constraints such as employer’s influence, dearth of resources, political and corporate interference as well as the lure of gratification tend to subvert the drive for accuracy and fairness. Hence, it is hardly surprising that the systematic monitoring of media coverage of the reporting of corruption, budget and politics by Media Rights Agenda (MRA), a non-governmental organization, reveal that basic standards were not followed.
