Broadcasting is regulated by an independent
body adequately protected by law against interference
whose board is appointed – in an open way – involving
civil society and not dominated by any particular
political party.
The Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority is accountable to the government
through its board. Article 9 (2) of the Broadcasting Service Proclamation states
that “members of the board ... shall be appointed by the government on the
recommendation of the Minister [Ministry of Information].” The number of
board members is also determined by the government.
