SECTOR 4 of these newspaper reports, the National Press Board (CNP), like several Ivorians, wonders if it is the same events that are being narrated given the overwhelming dissimilarities in reporting. The CNP notes that these inconsistencies are a result either of the incompetence of our press reporters or the ill intent of the editorial teams”. In order to promote a journalism of quality, UNJCI launched twelve years ago, the Noël X. Ebony Excellence Award. In the 2009 edition, an award will be given for the best report: the “Joseph Diomandé Special Award”. The National Press Board also organised in May 2009 the fourth edition of the CNP Awards namely: the Golden Quill, Silver Quill, Bronze Quill and the Special Award won respectively by Nord-Sud, Gbich, le Nouveau Reveil and the Olympe Group. Average score: 1.9 4.3 The media cover the full spectrum of events, issues and cultures, including business/economics, cultural, local and investigative stories. There is practically no sector of the national life that is not covered by the Ivorian media, “not even the most unusual subjects”. There are even “pornographic” magazines, while the law compels editors and distributors to package such publications for distribution. Unfortunately, all media outlets cannot afford to conduct thorough investigations for lack of human and financial resources as well as sufficient logistical means. The daily newspaper Fraternité Matin has a long tradition of investigative journalism but this seems to be disappearing. It appears that the newspaper Nord-Sud has taken up the torch. The daily newspaper Soir Info is distinguished by its enquiries. 118 AFRICAN MEDIA BAROMETER IVORY COAST 2009
