The Information and Media Policy states that “an independent regulator shall be established to regulate private, public, community
and commercial broadcasters…appointments to the regulating body
shall be made through a transparent process, including the procedures for issuing rulings and decisions, and the processes for petition or appeal by applicants.” In an effort to implement this policy,
the Broadcasting Draft Bill seeks to set up an independent broadcasting regulator. However, stakeholders have lodged objections to
the bill’s failure to include adequate protections against political
interference.
