At the RTNC self-censorship occurs systematically as a result of a constantly
pending potential request for an explanation looming above the heads of the
broadcasters. More generally, self-censorship applies in other media bodies when
journalists are in possession of highly sensitive information. “Our democracy is
one in name only” and without having an official source to balance and verify
information acquired, the rule of self-censorship applies for most professionals.
