The magazine market, however, has experienced a ‘bloodbath’ in the last year,
with readership dwindling and some titles folding. South Africa Media Facts 2013
report the above-the-line ad spend for the consumer magazine market was R2,
206.7 million in 2008, R2154.5 million in 2011 and dropped to R2098.2 in 2012.
Due to the general economic downturn, a number of magazine titles have had to
close, including Media24’s Shape.
