SECTOR 3

3.7 The state/public broadcaster offers diverse programming formats for all interests including local content and quality public interest programmes.
Public broadcasters are required by law to air at least 70% local content; and
they try to comply. However, during elections they are often forced to follow
the political agenda of candidates, to the detriment of other content. A few
dare to run programs that give voice to all political parties, but the ruling party
generally dominates political coverage and programming. In an attempt to catch
up with private broadcasters, public radio and television stations are increasingly
diversifying their offers of entertainment, sports, and global affairs programmes.
