2.10 Private broadcasters deliver a minimum of quality
public interest programmes.
Competition is pushing private broadcasters to increase content quality, including
programming that is relevant to their audiences. Political and current affairs
debate shows, such as ‘Matters Arising’ on AIT and ‘Sunrise’ on Channels, are
some of the most popular on television. Radio stations are awash with phonein programs that allow the audience to participate in discussing issues that
matter to them. Generally, audiences prefer private broadcasters because of their
quality and the pertinence of their content. Public broadcasters are loaded with
government propaganda.
