Most Nigerians would agree that the country’s FOI Act was a product of broad consultation, which most other laws do not enjoy. However, its enactment in 2011 did not set any precedence. The Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015, which came after the FOI Act, was not a product of consultations. Even though it may be hasty to jump to conclusions since no media legislations have been produced since the FOI, general lack of consultation in the country’s law-making process remains the dominant state of affairs.
