SECTOR 4 4.7 Journalists and media houses have integrity and are not corrupt. Generally, Botswana journalists are not corrupt and “have a very high standard of moral integrity”. There are only a few instances where journalists in the private media have had to be removed from their beat because of bribery. “[ Journalist] have a very high standard of moral integrity”. “Most journalists are not paid well, so it is easy for them to be corrupted, yet generally they are not.” State media journalists are required to declare ‘freebies’, but there are no such policies in the private media. “This area needs to be researched so that private media policies can be established.” It was felt that although state media journalists may have integrity, the institution for which they work struggles with a lack of integrity as it is biased towards the government.
