2.4 Transparency of ownership of media houses in
print/broadcasting is guaranteed by law and enforced.
Ownership of media houses in print or broadcasting is transparent, and people
can easily access this information through the Patents and Companies Registration
Agency (PACRA). However, a small fee has to be paid to access this information.
The public is generally aware of which media houses are owned by the state.
Generally, people are not very interested in who owns what. However, depending
on the content of various media, they may want to know about ownership simply
to place that content in context.
At ZNBC, the union is “making noise regarding the appointment of the board at
ZNBC”. Questions have also been raised by the union and the MLC regarding the
appointment of the CEO, as “procedure had not been followed”.
