in the management of ORTB with a few exceptions like the cases of nomination.
he State also pays the salaries of about 200 full-time staf out of a total of 700
workers.
he other source of funding, which is major, is from the proceeds of advertisements
since ORTB attracts a lot of business as the leading station for advertisements in
Benin.
Basically, ORTB has structural deiciencies and is therefore bound to sufer
various interferences having to do with the nomination of its board members and
its sources of funding.
his is the reason why people are demanding that the funding of ORTB should
be passed yearly when the national budget is brought before parliament. his is
not the case in practice since everything is under the auspices of the Ministry of

The state/public broadcaster is technically
accessible in the entire country.
In theory, there should be 100% coverage but no actual ield research has been
done. According to estimates of nation-wide coverage, radio has about 60% ratio
of access and TV 40%.
he transmitters that have been set up in the hinterland are not continually
operational; they depend on generators, which consume a lot of expensive fuel.
One can capture ORTB by satellite in the neighboring countries though Lokossa
which is 105 km from Cotonou has a very poor reception.
