SECTOR 1 As for community radio stations, a provision in their contract with the state prohibit transmitting any message contrary to government policy. “Government must be informed 24 hours before any speech contrary to its policy is transmitted by community radio stations” Each community radio station receives 3 million CFA francs per year (about 6,000 US dollars) from the Government. This sum is paid in cash to the managers of the community radio stations by the communications unit of the Presidency, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Finance and the manager of financial control. It also happens that mayors accuse community radio stations in their municipalities of supporting the opposition “because they allegedly spoke badly”. Some community radio managers manage to resist despite reprisals. The international media and some of their correspondents undergo pressure for freely expressing the right to freedom of expression. The television channel Africa 242 covered the demonstration that was suppressed on 27 December 2014 but did not broadcast it. The panel felt that the failure to broadcast was linked to pressure from the Government.
