Angola various ministerial agencies and departments, putting an end to the practice of journalists working as press officers for government bodies, now against the law. Employees in the service of the GCII are “strictly forbidden from practicing journalism, working as freelancers, analysts, or experts on specific subjects, and may not take part in any debate and processing of journalistic material” reads the decree, signed by President Dos Santos. The decree says further that the GCII will support ministry departments and provincial governments in the areas of institutional communication and the press and in the drafting of communication plans “in line with the strategic directives issued by the Ministry of Social Communication and GRECIMA”. Presenting “crisis management plans”, drafting speeches and messages for the members of their respective bodies, organising institutional events or developing publicity campaigns, are among others, the responsibility of the new GCII, supervised by the Ministry of Social Communication and overseen by GRECIMA.
