There are no laws at present that restrict the practise of journalism in Zambia. However, journalists are encouraged to register with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), a department of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services, after which they are issued with a press card. Having such a card facilitates journalists’ entry to certain official functions, such as those held at State House. Many journalists practise without a press card.
