Owners of established mainstream private
media do not interfere with editorial independence.
Media owners generally influence editorial operations, particularly when their
interests are at stake. Most media houses in Cameroon are sole proprietorships
and owners tend to concurrently assume the role of manager, publisher and
editor. There are a few media houses that could be viewed as true enterprises, with
shareholders and established boards. However, even in these instances, proprietors
try to control editorial content.
