MAURITIUS
Every Mauritian citizen who owns a television set is obliged to pay
a monthly TV license fee of Rs 100 (2.8 US dollars). This fee is collected through the electricity bills.
Since 2002, three private radio stations have also come on air: Radio One, Radio Plus and Top FM. Radio France International and the
British Broadcasting Corporation are accessible through FM or AM
respectively. There are no local private TV stations but international television services such as Canal Plus or the subscription service
DStV are available via satellite.
The internet is being used more and more as a source of information. The price of connection fees has been decreasing and presently stands at about Rs 800 per month (22.8 US dollars) for a 128K
ADSL package.

2.2 Citizens’ access to domestic and international media sources
is not restricted by state authorities.
ANALYSIS:
There are no such restrictions. However, access to the internet
website Facebook was cut off for one day because of a satire it carried lampooning the Prime Minister - until the offending piece was
removed.
