Cameroon 4.5 Gender mainstreaming is reflected in the editorial content. ANALYSIS: In Cameroon, stories on women do not sell. For example, the “Nouvelle Expression” once published an edition that focused only on women. Unfortunately, the sales dropped. We have women in top management positions, but they do not have ideological stands. They fail to take up women issues. When trainers of the world triple jump champion, Françoise Mbango, recently turned against her, even going as far as questioning with whom she had had a baby, women in various newsrooms failed to stand up for her cause. If women in the newsrooms do not find it necessary to influence the content of the newspaper in their favour, their male counterparts won’t, especially as it has been established that women hardly buy newspapers. ANALYSIS: Journalists of the public and private media conveniently practise self-censorship. How they go about it depends on the editorial policy of their respective organs.
