Journalists and media have integrity and are
not corrupt.
Corruption is a phenomenon that is distinctly gaining ground in the media.
Although present prior to opening the media landscape to the private sector
(administrative authorities have been known to offer houses to journalists in
exchange of their favourable consideration), corruption has taken new forms with
the emergence of new political and economic stakeholders (telephone operators,
public works and civil engineering firms, automobile industry, food industry, etc...).
According to the panel, this scourge affects both the public and private media.
On the other hand, a widely-circulated publication is naturally more exposed to
corruption than a smaller-sized newspaper. In any case, corruption has caused a
relation of distrust between media and its consumers.
