spread of correspondents at the national level. It is true that part of the work that
was done by INFORPESS has been taken over by private online media, but

Media diversity is
regulation/legislation.

promoted

through

adequate

competition

ANALYSIS:
Cape Verde is very weak on media regulation. There is no specific legislation
on competition. But that does not mean that there is no diversity in the media.
Often, the absence of legislation is simply the result of an oversight and of the
fact that very often, the media sector is not viewed as a priority, not necessarily
the result of a deliberate attitude with the view of prejudicing diversity.

Government promotes a political and economic environment which
allows a diverse media landscape.

ANALYSIS:
The current political environment in Cape Verde, which is characterised by a
liberal democracy regime, is appropriate for the promotion of diversity in the
media. From the economic standpoint, as Cape Verde is not a rich country, it is
possible to say firmly that the country enjoys the conditions for the media to
prosper and for more diversity.
