The University of Brazzaville offers a course in Science and Techniques of Communication and it is the main training centre for journalists. The Ecole national et moyenne d’Administration also offers a two-year communication course. Meanwhile, the Media Resource Centre regularly organises short courses for skills upgrade. The Centre de Formation et de Perfectionnement de Professionelles de l’information et de communication is still under construction. The government is also working with UNESCO to create the Pan-African Institute of Communication Management in Pointe-Noire. The institution is expected to be operational in 2014. In spite of the existence of several facilities for formal training, most media houses employ untrained personnel because they are inexpensive. Regularly, seminars and workshops are thus organised in the country to provide skills in basic reporting or to reinforce the skills of more experienced reporters and writers. 118 AFRICAN MEDIA BAROMETER REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO 2013
