The state-run Cameroon Printing and Publishing Corporation (SOPECAM) publishes a daily newspaper Cameroon Tribune, and two magazines - Nyanga and Weekend. Cameroon Tribune is the most prominent and is under more scrutiny than the other publications. The paper’s editorial policy is determined by the state, which leaves it vulnerable to undue political interference. Its journalists are not allowed to cover certain subjects considered sensitive, and are often forced to reflect the official narrative or practice self-censorship. However, an old practice whereby the Ministry of Communication had to approve the content of the paper before it goes to press has been abandoned.
